TAP® Pest Control Insulation

TAP® Pest Control Insulation is a natural fiber insulation made from recycled paper treated with Boric acid to produce fire-retardant, thermally superior, sounds deadening insulation with permanent pest control properties. It is acceptable for use around humans and pets but deadly to cockroaches, silverfish, ants, millipedes, termites and other pests listed on the label.

Benefits of this insulation product

  • Saves money
  • Reduces noise
  • Controls pests
  • “Green” product

How TAP® Insulation is installed

  • Blown in using a machine
  • When blown in it forms a perfect fit in your wall or attic seeking nooks and crannies while filling the entire cavity
  • Never cut on the job site, or stuffed into the cavity to fit behind pipes and conduits (which reduces the effectiveness of insulation)
  • Can be blown in over existing insulation

With fiberglass

  • Allows air to pass through increasing energy costs
  • Minimal sound proofing
  • Will melt once it is on fire
  • Will not kill pests

With TAP® Insulation

  • 32% more energy efficient than fiberglass insulation
  • Insulated interior walls reduce annoying noises
  • Fire retardant
  • Eliminates common household pests

Frequently Asked Questions

I already have insulation, do I need TAP® Insulation?

It is a strong possibility.  First, your current insulation most likely does not have pest control properties, so adding TAP® Pest Control Insulation would be greatly beneficial.  Second, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends a fairly significant amount of insulation (R-49) in residential attics.  This amount far exceeds most building codes and specs which means that many homes do not have enough insulation.  It has been estimated that 65% of homes in the U.S. are under-insulated, and most homes over 10 years old have about 1/3 of the recommended amount of insulation.

My research shows boric acid is roughly as toxic as table salt. If so, how can it kill pests?

Boric acid attaches to the bodies of the pests as they crawl through or nest in the insulation. Since these pests are “self-grooming” insects, they ingest the boric acid when they groom themselves.  As the pests cannot excrete the boric acid, it accumulates in the gut eventually proving lethal due to dehydration, malnutrition, or both.

Isn’t cellulose insulation a fire hazard?

This is a common myth often perpetuated by other insulation industries.  Most houses are cellulose (made from wood and forest products).  TAP® Pest Control Insulation contains a fire-retardant that actually makes homes safer in the event of fire.  Ordinary fiberglass insulation can melt creating a chimney-like effect in a wall. TAP® Pest Control Insulation, with its fire-retardant characteristics, will not hold a flame and forms a ‘charred’ surface barrier which limits the spread of fire.

Is TAP® Insulation really a green product?

Yes! TAP® Pest Control Insulation has earned the ENERGY STAR from the EPA. TAP® Pest Control Insulation contains 87% recycled paper. Installing TAP® Pest Control Insulation in a 1500 square foot new ranch style home effectively recycles as much newspaper as a family will consume in 40 years; not only recycling, but removing it from the waste stream, saving landfill space.

Does TAP® Insulation have an odor?

The borates in TAP® Pest Control Insulation actually help absorb and reduce any foul odors.
