School Pest Management Services

In 2000, the California Legislature passed the Healthy Schools Act (HSA), “to protect the health of school children and to reduce their exposure to pesticides.”

The HSA, is a right-to-know law that seeks to empower people by allowing them to participate in an informed way in decisions that affect them, while also holding decision-makers accountable.

Requirements

• Designate IPM Coordinator

  Appoint trained staff to oversee pest management and ensure HSA compliance.

• Train Personnel

  Provide annual HSA training to all staff who may use pesticides.

• Notify Annually

  Inform parents, guardians, and staff about expected pesticide use for the year.

• Offer Registration

  Allow 72-hour advance notification signup for individual applications.

• Publish IPM Plan

  Create and post comprehensive pest management plan on school website.

• Post Warning Signs

  Display required signage 24 hours before and 72 hours after treatments.

• Maintain Records

  Document all pesticide applications and store for 4+ years.

• Submit Reports

  File annual pesticide use reports to DPR by January 30th.
