Why Do You Not Offer Fumigation Services?

Why do you not offer fumigation services? This is an important question we receive from homeowners and property managers in the San Francisco Bay area who are researching treatment options. The answer comes down to licensing, regulatory compliance, and long term effectiveness. Pestec is a registered Branch 2 company under California law, which covers the control of household pests but excludes fumigation using poisonous or lethal gases. Fumigation requires a separate Branch 1 registration and falls under a different regulatory category.

Understanding California Branch Licensing

California regulates pest control companies through the Structural Pest Control Board. There are three primary license categories. Branch 1 covers fumigation using lethal or poisonous gases. Branch 2 covers general household pest control. Branch 3 covers wood destroying organisms such as termites and fungi.

Because Pestec operates as a Branch 2 company, we are licensed to provide pest control services for common household pests including rodents and insects. Fumigation services require Branch 1 licensing and specialized gas handling protocols under state law.

What Fumigation Does and Does Not Do

Fumigation involves enclosing a structure in a tent and releasing a gas treatment designed to eliminate target pests. Once the structure is ventilated and the tent is removed, the gas dissipates and leaves no residual protection.

While fumigation may be appropriate in certain situations, it does not address entry points or structural vulnerabilities. Without correcting conducive conditions, pests may return after treatment.

Why We Focus on Integrated Pest Management

In the San Francisco Bay area, pest pressure is ongoing due to climate, dense housing, and structural factors. Integrated pest management focuses on inspection, accurate identification, exclusion, sanitation improvements, and targeted treatment when necessary.

This approach supports long term rodent control and insect management by addressing the source of infestations rather than relying solely on short term gas treatments.

When Fumigation May Be Necessary

There are cases where fumigation is required under California regulations, particularly for certain wood destroying organisms. In those situations, property owners must work with a properly licensed Branch 1 provider. We are transparent about licensing boundaries and will guide property owners appropriately when that level of service is required.
